Hooch claims four lives, seven in hospital
MALAPPURAM: Four persons died after allegedly consuming illicit liquor from a toddy shop at Kuttippuram in the district today, police said. The bodies of two persons were recovered from Kuttippuram Railway station premises while two others died at a hospital, they said. Seven others have been admitted to hospital with exhaustion and nausea and the condition of two of them was stated to be serious, they added. The dead were yet to be identified. Meanwhile, Excise officials have sealed some toddy shops in Perassanoor and Kuttipuram areas, police said. Excise Minister P K Gurudasan has ordered an inquiry into the tragedy, official sources said, adding the Excise Commissioner has been asked to submit a preliminary report about the incident.
